Why we built Chenashe
Chenashe was born out of a practical problem. Small and medium community housing providers in Australia — especially Aboriginal community-controlled organisations — were caught between two bad options: expensive enterprise systems designed for large-scale agencies, or generic property management software that knows nothing about VHR compliance, Centrepay, RTBA bonds, or the regulatory obligations that come with community housing.
The result was spreadsheets. Rent ledgers in Excel. Inspection records on paper. Compliance registers in shared folders. Funder reports assembled manually from five different sources. Every hour spent reconciling data was an hour not spent on tenants.
Chenashe puts tenancies, rent, arrears, maintenance, inspections, compliance, and reporting into one system — purpose-built for Australian community housing from the ground up. Not adapted from agency software. Not bolted onto a generic platform. Built specifically for the rules, the reporting, and the people this sector serves.
